Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants. The first time I ate there was in Maui for our honeymoon in 1999. We asked my cousins what restaurant they recommended and they said Roy's - good food, good service, very friendly though a little pricey. It was a very friendly atmosphere and very casual. When Roy's opened in San Francisco we went to eat there for our 1st anniversary. The atmosphere is a little different because it's close to the financial district and a little less casual. (One year I did eat there in a t-shirt and my havaianas though and it was fine). Friday during lunch me and my co-workers went to Roy's to eat a three course meal at a fixed priced. Each year San Francisco has an event called Dine about Town where you can eat a full three course meal for 21.95 (lunch) and 31.95 (dinner). The week before, we ate at Farallon. We plan to try one more restaurant before the event expires which is at the end of this month. It's a great way to try different restaurants at a reasonable price.
Joyce,
You and I would make wonderful eating buddies. I love, love, love Roy's! My husband and I eat there everytime we're in Hawaii...their chocolate molten cake with vanilla bean ice cream is dee-lish! Farallon has quite scrumptious food too. Sad I'm missing out on Dine about Town.

Umm, I'm curious.
I didn't know about this restaurant. I wonder if they have branches here in Tokyo.
Gotta check it out now!
Thanks for sharing, Joyce!

sally:i know what dessert you're talking about. we had that one when we first went to roy's - i love that one. they had this cheesecake w/ macadamia nut crust one time here in the city and that one was also very good.
anne:if you do the "dine about town" this weekend - i think that farallon would be a little bit more substantial than roy's - but i think i'm partial to roy's.- but farallon is good from what i tried. me and my co-workers liked the appetizers from roy's the main course from farallon, and the dessert from roy's-farallon actually made us full though.
kumi:not quite sure if there is one in japan - maybe in the future.
